03-10-2016 Letter to National Catholic Register on the Consequences of Confusion and Dissension

SUBJECT: Scalia: America’s Good Servant ‘Because He Was God’s First’  (3/6/2016)

Dear Editor:

The profound insight of Father Raymond J. De Souza’s article was, however unintended, a clear and accurate exposure of the serious disorder that has plagued the Catholic Church for decades—“Catholics” continue, year after year, to take action that is clearly in direct opposition to Catholic doctrine! And yet, our Church leaders portray them, and count them, as Catholic!

The first order of business for the USCCB should be to formally and publically re-define the term “Catholic” so that all Catholics, and the American public, will again know who and what we are, what we believe, and what we don’t believe! The apparent acceptance by the USCCB of the term “cafeteria” Catholic (pseudo-Catholic, quasi-Catholic, renegade Catholic, anti-Catholic, etc.) is an in-your-face challenge to our Catholic bishops, and to the Catholic press!

The confusion and dissension among Catholics and the public in general endures and grows nationwide because high-profile Catholic individuals, and others who claim to be Catholic, act in direct opposition to Catholic teaching. The fact that they are not immediately, and officially, challenged by our Bishops is why the confusion among Catholics and the public continues to grow nationwide, and why our radically pro-abortion president was returned to office for a second time. During the last presidential election when Cardinal Dolan referred to Biden and Ryan as two “Catholics” he gave cover, i.e., virtual recognition as being truly Catholic, to Biden, and to other renegade Catholics, despite the fact that they stepped outside of the body of the Catholic Church?

This is a major reason why the pro-choice mindset is so deeply entrenched in the hearts and minds of Americans; the Democrat convention had anti-Catholic “Catholics” standing in line to brazenly announce their support for the right to choose a violent death for preborn babies even though the killing of our own children is so gut-wrenchingly inhumane, so repugnant to the intellect, and so repulsive to our senses, even as the sciences confirm the personhood of all pre-born human life!

Legalized abortion-on-demand has endured 43 long years, and counting; this inhumane slaughter cries to heaven for a passionate proactive re-awakening of our duty to defend and protect pre-born life! The extermination of our pre-born babies must stop! The USCCB’s priorities are upside down! It’s time to clean the house (Temple) of anti-Catholic Catholics.

Our Church leaders must shoulder their responsibility to publicly challenge and counter the influence that pro-choice Catholic politicians have on Catholics, and society in general! And they must be specific, forceful, and unambiguous in making the faithful understand and know in their hearts and minds, that they cannot be “pro-choice” and still be Catholic! Why can’t we hear that message, loud and clear?

Prayers for our pre-born American citizens,

Charles N. Marrelli
